New strategies for syntheses of aryl carotenoids
We have recently patented a biomimetic synthesis of ø,ø-carotene (isorenieratene). The new reaction permits to convert ß-ionone into its aromatic analogue which is further condensed with an easily available synthon, leading to the retinal analogue. A low-valent titanium coupling led to isorenieratene.
